Bushwood Black

Bushwood Black C.C. is located in the flat lands of North Central Ohio where the wind always blows and the grass sometimes grows.  A first glance, Bushwood appears to be easy pickings, as the layout is fairly wide open with no apparent trouble.  It would be but a fool to harbor that thought because once one strides down that first fairway into the ankle deep fairway, one soon discovers the mind wrenching difficulties lurking in those grub infested meadows.

If, by chance, a player finds what are commonly known as sand traps on this course, he finds himself attempting a play very rarely encountered, a blast from gravel!  Just try to put Number 7, 271 yards par 3some suck on one out of these babies!  The greens at Bushwood offer some mind altering experiences of their own.For the most part, they appear relatively flat, with little break. The fact is, a ball struck on these greens roll in inexplicable ways and oddly, never the same way twice!

Another interesting and unusual feature is the yardage markers, placed in the fairways.  Apparently, the course was measured in meters and marked in yards because the markers are all long. A red marker denoting 100 yards to the green can be actually 120 or even 125 yards, one never knows!  This makes club selection especially challenging. Number 13, 578 yards, par 5Overall, the track plays very long, with some very difficult par threes and par fours.

But the most bizarre aspect of Bushwood is the effect it has on a golfer's mind.  It will cause a good swing to go bad.  A smooth, controlled pass at the ball becomes a wild thrash at Bushwood.  The layout numbs the brain and flat lines all brainwaves as it appears that you can swing as hard as you can, and most try and are sorry for their efforts. Some course changes have been made for the 2001 Bag Open. Among them is number 7, a par three, becomes the "shit house" hole. The new tee is directly north of the the front side shitter, and now measures 271 yds.

Bushwood Black

Bushwood Black, the NEW tees will be played by the Bags for the first time in 2002. Originally laid out by Lumpy Byers and CHOP Thompson as a method to prevent themselves from shooting 65's all the time, the course is reportedly the longest in the world!

See the Official Bushwood Black scorecard below for hole by hole yardages. It's a BITCH!!

Slash Back from World Tour

Slash and Burn recently wrapped up the fall portion of his world tour by returning from "Sin City" Las Vegas, NV with Mrs. Slash. The safari proved expensive for the King as he lost most of his hard earned cash at the tables.

Black Named One of Top 100 Courses in the US

AP Aug 6, 2002 - Bushwood Black, home of the Bag Open, was today named as one of America's Top 100 Golf Courses by Golf Digest Magazine. The honor, one of what will undoubtedly be many, was a first for the new layout Co-designed by Jim Thompson and Curtis Strange-Byers, the track features nothing much more than incredible length.

Hack of the Year Award

Casey The Village Idiot Meloy has garnered the coveted "Hack of the Year Award" for 2002. Little seen, thankfully, the Village will be honored at a gala fete June 32nd, 2098.

"It's My Kind of Course"

"Most golf courses are just too damned shortThe CHOP for me!", CHOP intoned, "I'm LONG off the tee, and usually I only need to carry a couple of clubs to play most of the dog tracks around this area "Bushwood Black has just enough length so I can occasionally hit a 7 iron if I wish, I just need some kind of challenge!" The Thompson continued, "Me and 'no show" Lumpy basically decided that we weren't even interested in teeing it up this year if this course didn't measure at least 7,700 yards"," Bushwood Black at just over 8000 will test us a bit more!"

We are studs, everyone knows that and fears us accordingly!

 Why I are a loser
by Lumpy Byers
Lumpy slashesI guess I've been a loser all my life, although I never really knew it until I was asked to be a Bag. I had some nagging suspicions as a teenager. I could never get a date - with a girl that is. Guys were no problem, though. I thought it was natural to be told to "Assume the position!". How was I to know?

When I came to Bushwood six years ago, fresh out of college, one of the first people I met was the King Bag. I had known CHOP Thompson from my school days at Malone. I suppose it was CHOP that first corrupted me and the King finished off the job. I know I'm a chump, but what can I do?

VillageThe Village Idiot, AKA  Casey Meloy was recently asked what the Bag Open meant to him. Here is a short excerpt of his response. "What does the Bag Open mean to me?  Well, actually, not a damned thing! It's tough for a player of my caliber to come out and actually try to miss-hit the ball. I find it difficult not to at least par a hole!  I'm usually raining birdies! I only show up to humor these other clowns."
